San Diego Craigslist ad to LGBT community: ‘You’re next’
San Diego police were alerted to a possible threat of violence against the LGBT community on Tuesday.
A concerned Craigslist user saw an ad in the men-seeking-men sub-section of the site which depicted a firing handgun. The user became more distressed by the posting’s title, and the conflicting message that followed.
“We need more Orlando’s (sic).
“Orlando was long overdue. Cleanse your community of the filth that gives decent gay men and women a bad name. Those people were walking diseases, bug chasers, and thank god for AIDS and 9-11 and now Orlando. San Diego you are next…”
The concerned citizen followed the “see something, say something” rule and sent the ad to 10 News San Diego, who sent a screen shot of the threatening message to law enforcement. Craigslist has since removed the post from thier site.
Lt. Scott Wahl said police will investigate the posting.
BADCRIMINALS.COM is also reporting that FBI Special Agent Darrell Foxworth will assist the police department should they require it.
On Monday Mayor Faulconer and Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman said in a meeting that they have stepped-up security in San Diego, but there have been no specific threats to the city.
They emphasized that people should trust their instincts and if they see or feel something that might be a threat, they should immediately alert authorities.
The mayor and police chief have made it clear that keeping the city safe, especially the LGBT community is their primary goal.
