Girl arrested after dog dies from being left in hot car outside PetSmart

A Falls Church woman was arrested after police said her dog died after being found locked inside of a hot car.

At around 12:23 p.m. Monday, first responders were called to a PetSmart store in the 6100 block of Arlington Boulevard in Falls Church after receiving reports of a dog locked in a car. When firefighters arrived, they found the 5-year-old Puggle overheated and in distress. They got into the vehicle and attempted to cool the dog down. The dog was then taken into the veterinarian’s office inside the pet store where it was pronounced dead.

The owner of the dog, 19-year-old Megan Kurtz Campbell, has been charged with felony animal cruelty.
