Beaten by a group of men and run over, Dallas Police are searching for six men who they believe are responsible for targeting an Oak Cliff woman and another man.
The assault happened near West Jefferson Boulevard and South Llewellyn Avenue.
Family members said Maritza Juarez, 31, was leaving an Oak Cliff bar around 2:15 a.m. with her cousin Manuel Mendez Jr., 25 when they were attacked. Police said six men started attacking the Juarez. When Mendez Jr. jumped in to help stop the fight, investigators said he was knocked unconscious. When he woke up, he told police he witnessed an SUV run over Juarez and then speed off down the street.
“It’s sad, especially for the mom. She’s a very nice person. I don’t understand why they did that to her,”
said Carmen Alba, a neighbor of Juarez. “It’s surprising six people. It’s terrible.”
Family members said Juarez has broken ribs, detached ears, cuts and bruising and a fractured neck that could be broken. They said Mendez will need surgery for a facial injury.
Police are still searching for a motive.
No one believed to be involved is in custody.
